ABOUT FRAN
I'm a language teacher and I love to share my enthusiasm for learning new languages. I'm Portuguese and I've always been fascinated by foreign cultures, which is why sharing my own is so appealing to me. As of late, I have been teaching my mother tongue to people from all walks of life and helping them with pronunciation, vocabulary and their confidence when communicating in Portuguese.
I started "Fran's Portuguese Corner" (my online teaching project) to bridge the gap between traditional and hands-on learning. I've realised there is a preconceived idea around learning the language that needs to be tackled, and that's exactly why I have been creating lessons, resources and exercises to put it to rest. I don't think that learning has to be a chore - it can be fun and put to good use if you want to.
I offer online sessions exclusively, but I am based in the Algarve. I am open to teaching in person occasionally, depending on my availability.
MY METHODOLOGY:
I believe that learning a language must include two different but complementary approaches:
1. learning the foundations of the language, i.e. grammar, vocabulary, linking words - a more passive, traditional way;
2. practising and consolidating your knowledge of the language.
My aim as a teacher is to make sure that students actively work on their skills according to these approaches. Here's how I believe these can be both honoured:
- Step 1 comes in the form of more traditional lessons covering listening, reading and writing. Speaking is also contemplated and practice is highly encouraged, but the main objective is to really focus on the structure of the language and how to make the different blocks make sense as a whole.
- Step 2 comes in the form of active use of the language. Conversation, speaking prompts and pronunciation exercises take centre stage here.
One cannot learn a language without being brave enough to use it on a day-to-day basis. However, confidence only comes if you are able to integrate both Step 1 and Step 2, and that is why both are contemplated in my work.

SOBRE a FRAN(CISCA)
Sou professora de línguas e adoro transmitir o meu entusiasmo por aprender novos idiomas. Sou portuguesa, e sempre me senti fascinada por outras culturas, pelo que partilhar a minha própria é algo que me apaixona. Nos últimos tempos, tenho ensinado português a pessoas de diversas origens, ajudando-as com pronúncia, vocabulário e confiança ao comunicar na língua.
Criei o “Fran's Portuguese Corner”, o meu projeto de ensino online, para ligar o ensino tradicional à aprendizagem prática. Reparei que existem algumas ideias preconcebidas sobre aprender línguas que merecem ser desafiadas, e é exatamente por isso que desenvolvo aulas, recursos e exercícios que tornam o processo mais simples e motivador. Aprender não precisa de ser difícil – pode ser divertido e útil, se assim o quisermos!
Ofereço sessões exclusivamente online, mas moro no Algarve e, ocasionalmente, também posso dar aulas presenciais, dependendo da minha disponibilidade.
A MINHA METODOLOGIA
Acredito que aprender uma língua deve combinar duas abordagens complementares:
- Conhecer os fundamentos da língua – gramática, vocabulário, conectores – de forma mais estruturada e tradicional;
- Praticar e consolidar ativamente os conhecimentos adquiridos.
O meu objetivo é garantir que os alunos desenvolvem competências através destas duas vertentes.
Eis como trabalho cada uma delas:
Passo 1: Aulas mais tradicionais, focadas em compreensão oral, compreensão escrita e produção escrita. A expressão oral também é trabalhada, mas o objetivo principal é compreender a estrutura da língua e perceber como os diferentes elementos se articulam.
Passo 2: Utilização ativa da língua, com conversas, exercícios de pronúncia e atividades que incentivam a comunicação.
Não se aprende uma língua sem coragem para a usar no dia a dia! A confiança surge quando se consegue integrar tanto o Passo 1 como o Passo 2 – e é exatamente isso que proponho nas minhas aulas.
